Meet Christina Blackcloud

Christina Blackcloud was born in Nebraska and raised on the Meskwaki Indian Settlement near Tama, Iowa and on the Yankton Sioux Reservation in South Dakota.

The Meskwaki people have a rich, cultural history in Iowa where her family’s Iowa roots stem even deeper, before Iowa became a state. Christina is proud to be the first Indigenous person to win a Primary Election in Iowa and brings experience and a new vision for her district.

With a dual Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and Human Resource Management and having interned for both Senator Harkin's Office and for the USDA, Office of Ethics in Washington, DC, Christina has a plan to coordinate efforts to strengthen her community by ensuring Iowans are fairly represented.

Over the years, Christina served her Tribe as Executive Director as well as Senior Services Director and Director of Business Development.  She is an alumnae of the New Leaders Council – Des Moines Chapter, American Council of Young Political Leaders, and Emerge Iowa.

She is a community leader and an active volunteer. She understands the importance of listening to concerns, identifying, and implementing solutions.  She firmly believes Iowa deserves a representative who understands that protecting the land and water is imperative to the future.  She has spent her life  advancing progressive values and advocating for others. She promises to stand up and fight for equality.

Christina states, "I believe the only way to make a change is to be the change.  That's why I'm running for Iowa House District 72 and I can't wait to get started!"
